Banana Moon Bromley: Ready for the 2025 EYFS Nutrition Standards
Supporting Big Futures: Our Menu Is Evolving!
At Banana Moon Bromley, food is more than fuel. It’s an essential part of nurturing healthy, happy children. With the latest Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Nutrition Guidance becoming statutory from September 2025, we’re pleased to confirm that our current high standards are already fully in line with what’s to come.
From September, all early years providers must follow this new guidance, ensuring that every meal and drink served on site contributes positively to children’s health, wellbeing, and development. This includes meeting clear standards on nutritional content, balance, and variety across each day and week.
What’s Staying the Same – Because It’s Already Right
We are proud to say that many of the new requirements are practices we already have in place:
✅ Fruits or vegetables with every meal and snack – always fresh, varied, and child-friendly
✅ Access to water throughout the day – plus milk or unsweetened fortified dairy alternatives at mealtimes. No squash or fruit juice is ever served
✅ No sweetened yoghurts or fromage frais – we use plain Greek yoghurt, naturally sweetened with fresh fruit
✅ No dried fruit served as snacks – we use it only as part of a main meal when appropriate
✅ Full compliance with the 'avoid' list – no high-sugar cereals, artificial sweeteners, or overly processed foods
✅ Oily fish provided twice a month – including in our popular dishes like fish pie and salmon and broccoli pasta
✅ Strict allergy-safe procedures in place – currently catering for over 15 allergies and dietary preferences, including nuts, eggs, sesame, dairy, and legumes
✅ We also cater to vegetarian, vegan and pescatarian diets, ensuring all children enjoy safe, inclusive, and nutritionally balanced meals every day
✅ Limit on processed foods – including vegetarian alternatives, to once per week in line with recommended fat and salt guidance
✅ No stock or gravy for children under 12 months old
✅ All meals are prepared in accordance with food safety and choking prevention guidelines, tailored to each child's stage of development
✅ We maintain a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating, reflecting our commitment to the highest standards in food preparation and safety
What We’re Enhancing in Our September Menu
While we already offer a rich and balanced menu, we’re taking this opportunity to refresh our offering and introduce a few exciting enhancements in line with the new Nutritional Guidance:
🌾 More wholegrains – You’ll now see more wholemeal pasta, brown rice, porridge oats, wholegrain crackers, wholemeal pittas, and seeded breads featured throughout our breakfast, lunches and teas
🌱 Two vegetarian main meals per week for all children – We’re reintroducing favourites like chickpea curry and lentil lasagne as featured dishes for everyone, not just alternatives
As always, our food is freshly prepared on site by our talented nursery chef and served in a warm, social environment that encourages exploration, good habits, and peer-led tasting.
Our menu works on a 4-week cycle, carefully designed to provide balance across each week and variety across the month. This approach is in line with government recommendations and ensures that children who attend on the same day each week still experience a diverse and exciting range of meals.
We’re proud to offer a food provision that is inclusive, well-balanced, and completely aligned with statutory nutritional guidance. From portion sizes to variety, everything has been carefully considered to support healthy growth and development in the early years.
New Menu
Our September menu is just around the corner – full of favourites and carefully updated to reflect the very best in early years nutrition. We remain proud to support every child’s growth and development, one nutritious meal at a time.
