Banana Moon Bromley Renews Millie’s Mark Accreditation for Another Three Years
Millie’s Mark: A National Quality Standard in Paediatric First Aid
At Banana Moon Bromley, safety is at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to share that we’ve once again been awarded Millie’s Mark, a nationally recognised quality mark that confirms all staff working directly with children are not only trained in paediatric first aid, but are also confident and competent in applying it in practice. Millie’s Mark is awarded by the National Day Nurseries Association (NDNA) in partnership with the Department for Education and Millie’s Trust, and is named in memory of Millie Thompson, who tragically lost her life following a choking incident in 2012. Her parents have since campaigned for every nursery practitioner to be paediatric first aid trained, and this award is the gold standard in delivering that vision.
Renewed for Another Three Years Our renewal confirms that we continue to meet and exceed the rigorous standards required for Millie’s Mark. It reflects our commitment to regular, high-quality paediatric first aid training, robust emergency procedures and accident documentation, ongoing staff development and reflective practice, and clear communication with families about health, safety and wellbeing. Renewal of this award requires more than just a certificate; it requires a culture of excellence in first aid and safeguarding that’s embedded across the whole setting.
Going Beyond the Minimum: AED and LifeVac Devices On-Site As part of our commitment to keeping children safe, we’ve also invested in an on-site AED (defibrillator), available to trained staff in the event of a cardiac emergency, and a LifeVac anti-choking device, designed for use only as a last resort if other first aid steps are unsuccessful and the individual becomes unconscious. You can read more about these in our dedicated articles:
These devices are not mandatory, but we believe they provide added peace of mind for families and staff, especially in rare emergency situations. Our teams are trained in how and when to use these tools in line with our first aid policy and best practice guidance.
Why It Matters to Our Families Being a Millie’s Mark accredited setting gives parents an added layer of confidence when choosing childcare. It’s a visible sign that our team are not only trained but prepared, and that we take our safeguarding responsibilities seriously. This latest renewal is also a great opportunity to thank our team for their hard work and ongoing dedication, and to thank our families for trusting us with their most precious little ones.
Looking Ahead We remain committed to continuous improvement and keeping safety at the core of nursery life. Whether it's updating our EYFS-aligned health and nutrition policies, training our team in the latest safeguarding protocols, or investing in innovative safety tools, we're always looking ahead.
